The Liber Usualis for iPhone and iPod Touch

This announcement definitely isn’t for those who want to turn the clock back…all the way, anyway :¬)

From an e-mail to Fr. Zuhlsdorf:

My name is Michael Drake.  Over the past months I have been working on an application that combines an electronic version of the 1961 Liber Usualis with the Roman Calendar (also 1961), thereby reducing the weight of the Liber and making it easier to navigate.  I have called the application Liber Pro, and it will become available for iPhone and iPod Touch on September 29, 2009 [Michaelmas in the EF calendar…nice], at the cost of $14.99…

I admit that my purpose in asking this is to get the word out that this application is coming; however, I also think that the app would be of interest to many readers who are particularly attached to the Latin Mass, as I am myself.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

The listed price is up to 1/10th the cost of a physical reproduction of the Liber Usualis, so for those who have already purchased an iPod or iPod Touch, this is a veritable bargain. Granted, this will not be useful for the vision-impaired (who probably would not buy this hardware in the first place), and you definitely wouldn’t want to used this during, for example, the Easter Vigil—especially to replace candlelight. I’d be interested to see how the app might scale visually for the rumored iTablet, as well as the extent of the app’s functionality.
