Chant, polyphonic propers, and motets for a Nuptial Mass (Ordinary Form)
This question was posed to me by a bridegroom-to-be[1]:
I was wondering if you had any suggestions for what to use for a Gradual during a nuptial mass [Ordinary Form]. Oh, and any motets? Motets would be good too.
Firstly, here are the options for chanted propers for the Ordinary Form Nuptial Mass((Source: Graduale Romanum (Solesmes, 1974) or Graduale Triplex (Solesmes, 1979), p. 645.)). Propers that also occur in the Extraordinary Form Nuptial Mass are italicized.
- Introit:
- Deus in loco sancto suo
- Deus Israel[2]
- Dómine, refúgium factus es nobis
- Timéte Dóminum, omnes sancti eius
- Gradual:
- Timéte Dóminum, omnes sancti eius
- Uxor tua
- Alleluia: Mittat vobis
- Offertory:
- Immíttet ángelus Dómini
- In te sperávi, Dómine
- Communion:
- Beáti mundo corde
- Ecce sic benedicétur[3]
- Primum quaérite regnum Dei
This link will give you the list of available polyphonic settings of the above propers.
As far as extra-liturgical motets, I would recommend looking at Palestrina’s Motecta ex Cantica Canticorum (Motets from the Song of Songs) for ideas.
