Chant, polyphonic propers, and motets for a Nuptial Mass (Ordinary Form)

This question was posed to me by a bridegroom-to-be[1]:

I was wondering if you had any suggestions for what to use for a Gradual during a nuptial mass [Ordinary Form]. Oh, and any motets? Motets would be good too.

Firstly, here are the options for chanted propers for the Ordinary Form Nuptial Mass((Source: Graduale Romanum (Solesmes, 1974) or Graduale Triplex (Solesmes, 1979), p. 645.)). Propers that also occur in the Extraordinary Form Nuptial Mass are italicized.

  • Introit:
    • Deus in loco sancto suo
    • Deus Israel[2]
    • Dómine, refúgium factus es nobis
    • Timéte Dóminum, omnes sancti eius
  • Gradual:
    • Timéte Dóminum, omnes sancti eius
    • Uxor tua
  • Alleluia: Mittat vobis
  • Offertory:
    • Immíttet ángelus Dómini
    • In te sperávi, Dómine
  • Communion:
    • Beáti mundo corde
    • Ecce sic benedicétur[3]
    • Primum quaérite regnum Dei

This link will give you the list of available polyphonic settings of the above propers.

As far as extra-liturgical motets, I would recommend looking at Palestrina’s Motecta ex Cantica Canticorum (Motets from the Song of Songs) for ideas.

Notes:

  1. When was the last time you had a groom interested in the wedding music? []
  2. Not included in the revised Graduale, but may be used according to the alius cantus aptus provision as well as according to custom. []
  3. See previous note. []
