Tu es Petrus
et super hanc petram aedificábo ecclésiam meam
et portae ínferi non praevalébunt advérsus eam.
Et tibi dabo claves regni caelórum.

Not to sound unecumenical, but I had to laugh when I read someone on Facebook comment that after singing this piece, he wanted to go and slap a Lutheran.
So it’s interesting how today’s Gospel reading in the Extraordinary Form focused on controlling such thoughts.
Not to be utterly humorless, but who benefits if the beauty of this piece and the ramifications of its underlying statement are lost to yet another generation as a result of such ugly thoughts?…
I should have realized this is for all to see.
