World Library Publications’ mp3 samples

Jerry Galipeau, associate publisher at World Library Publications, has a new blog titled “Gotta Sing Gotta Pray”.

In his latest post, “The Choirs of Heaven”, he provides a selection of mp3 samples, which showcase some of the Sanctus settings published by WLP.  In the interest of convenience, I’ve provided links to them below. Unless noted otherwise, settings use the current ICEL translations:

An excerpt from setting by John Angotti:

The Sanctus from Ed Bolduc’s Mass of Celebration:

A Sanctus by Steve Janco:

The first part of the Sanctus from Godfrey Tomanek’s polyphonic Missa Brevis (Latin):

The Sanctus from Rory Cooney’s Mass of St. Aidan:

Excerpts of the Sanctus and Agnus Dei from Misa Luna by Peter Kolar (English/Spanish):

I am not inclined to comment, but I am particularly interested in any feedback from my Eastern Christian visitors regarding not only the music but also the observations that Jerry makes, which accompany these mp3s on the original blog.

  1. I’m reminded again that show tunes are apparently the biggest influence on American Catholic choral music of the late 20th century. Better orchestration and less ridiculous recording production could improve a number of these settings.

Godfrey Tomanek’s work is pretty impressive.
