Here are some MP3s from this afternoon’s Sung Mass in the Extraordinary Form, celebrated at Holy Innocents Church on West 37th Street in Manhattan.  The schola is usually comprised of singers from all around the New York/New Jersey metro area, the majority of whom sing at the Extraordinary Form Mass at Jersey City’s Holy Rosary Church; however, as the New Jersey members had a conflicting rehearsal (for Good Friday), the singers for this Mass come from NYC and Long Island.

Introit: Sitientes (2:33)

Ordinary: Kyrie XVIII (1:03)

Gradual: Tibi Domine (3:12)

Offertory: Factus est Dominus (1:36)

Ordinary: Sanctus XVIII (0:41)

Ordinary: Agnus Dei XVIII (0:44)

Communion: Dominus regit me (1:09)

Marian Antiphon: Ave Regina Caelorum (0:47)

  1. Art says:

Who threw in the parallel organum on the last Agnus Dei?

Also, a side question. In modern notation versions of chants, would the distropha near the end of Ave Regina Caelorum be best transcribed as a two 1/8 notes tied (the “o” in “exora”)? Most of what I’ve come across is a quarter note. The same question goes for the “lu” in the last Alleluia of the Regina Caeli.

    • Aristotle A. Esguerra says:

      (1) It wasn’t me :)

      (2) My inclination would be to eschew note stems altogether, but if they are to be used, I would retain as much information from the square notation as possible; this would mean two eighth notes in both cases you cite.
