Gregorian chant organ accompaniments, now available for free

Thanks to Jeff Ostrowski and Corpus Christi Watershed, who has brought to the world the Chabanel Psalms Project, seven volumes of the Nova Organi Harmonia are now available in PDF format for download and use. This collection of Gregorian chant harmonizations for the organ* according to the Belgian school of chant harmonization, and ordered to the liturgical calendar of the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite, is quite possibly the finest collection of its kind. And at a price, before printing, of around $160 less than the Solesmes chant accompaniments**, which are representative of the French school of chant harmonization.

For the musically inclined and the curious, refer to this article where Jeff explains in depth the differences between different schools of Gregorian chant harmonization, and why he believes the Belgian school is superior.

* A friend of mine points out that these harmonizations may serve as the basis for harmonized a capella chant as well.

** Perform a search on Graduale Romanum Comitante Organo to find the latest pricing on Solesmes’ three-volume set ordered to the 1974 Graduale Romanum.
