Schola survey and results posted
Noel Jones, a regular contributor to the MusicaSacra Forum, conducted what I believe is the first survey of Gregorian chant schola directors in a long time…perhaps ever.
He limited his sample to 100 respondents, and asked the following questions (paraphrased below in some cases):
- How many singers do you have?
- When/how often does your schola sing?
- Do you sing a capella, with organ, or both?
- Are you part of the parish music program, separate from the parish music program, or part of a school?
- Who provides your funding?
- Is the leader paid or unpaid?
- Does the parish subsidize CMAA membership?
- Does the parish subsidize your chant education?
- What is your budget for purchasing chant materials?
- How much have you spent in the past year on chant books and training?
The raw data is available in PDF format. It will be interesting to see response to the data. Some of it may be followed on the forum.
