“Australians making odd choices for funeral songs”

RC from Catholic Light - another blogger I was able to meet at Colloquium XVIII - brings attention to this story about alius cantus aptus taken to its dubious extreme in Australia. One would trust/hope/pray most of the music selections would not be considered for a proper Catholic funeral - AC/DC’s “Highway to Hell”, anyone?

“Some of the more unusual songs we hear actually work very well within the service because they represent the person’s character,” Centennial Park chief executive Bryan Elliott said.

Anthropocentric liturgy at its finest.

Though, I suppose if one’s going on that path within a liturgical or quasi-liturgical setting, might as well go all the way. Perhaps a dying mainline liturgical Protestant church could make use of parts of this liturgical setting for funerals…
