New look, possibly permanent

My previous bout of stay-up-all-night creativity resulted in a motet; my latest episode has resulted in the latest redesign of this site (still in progress).

Although the last WordPress theme I employed looked wonderful on Firefox, Opera and Internet Explorer 7, its layout broke on too many legacy browsers to really warrant making it a permanent look. So I looked for a solution that would:

  • respect the still-sizable number of people who use Internet Explorer 6 and other legacy browsers;
  • be able to scale to the 800×480 screens of the new UMPCs (like the Asus EEE);
  • be standards-compliant

My search led me to YAML and their excellent framework builder. The theme you’re looking at, called “JMIlyss”, is the fruit of twelve hours of work (and counting). It’s not done yet—and I know, I have more projects on the back burner than I have back burners—but once it is, I plan on releasing this to the general public.

For those who want to know, the image in the upper right-hand corner is that of Saint Cecilia, a 1606 painting by Guido Reni. She wants all readers to subscribe to the RSS feeds. And pray for church musicians everywhere.
