Sing along with the Heiligenkreuz monks

A video that the Cistercian monks of the Holy Cross Monastery in Austria posted on YouTube resulted in their receiving a recording contract with Universal Records—see Fr. Zuhlsdorf’s blog for details.

If you can read Gregorian chant notation, you may be able to sing along with the monks:

using the sheet music in this GIF image file. There are subtle melodic and rhythmic variations apparently peculiar to this monastery, if not to the order itself, so be alert to them.

I find it interesting to note that the chant selected by the monks is the Introit (Entrance chant) to Pentecost Sunday.

Methinks that the melodic/rhythmic variants may be peculiar to the Cistercians–a group which grew out of but is distinct from the Benedictines.

The notes you’ve given are not those of the cistercian chant sung by the monks in the film. Apparently, you hadn’t checked the sheet while listening the recording :)
