Baptist preacher agrees with Pope Benedict!
Dr. Don Boys from Georgia weighs in on the recent changes in the Vatican musical guard. I found the following observation of his rather interesting:
So Catholic Churches have major problems with music as do many evangelical and fundamental churches although the generational perpetrators are reversed. In Catholic Churches, the bad guys are older, more mature, well ensconced musicians who are supported by rebellious priests. They won’t surrender without a fight.
In Bible-oriented churches, the perpetrators are usually young men who like trendy, light music that compares to kumbaya. Often the lyrics don’t offend but neither do they teach, inspire, or motivate us to godliness. But what is lost in value they make up for it in volume. As Rick Warren says of his church music, “It is loud, very loud.” Scuttlebutt says that sometimes it is so loud, it breaks street lights a block away.
Among other things, I learned that there exists an International Church Music Review.

Someone, somewhere, explain to me when volume became equated with devotion in so many people’s minds…
When I spent a few days at St. Meinrad’s, I was amused and thrilled at the little note to us outsiders at their liturgies, “Please sing softly.”
At a saecular choral group rehearsal recently, where we were working on Cantique de Noel, the director at one point said something that seemed to me a flash of brilliance — something about one part of it being utterly exciting, but not the kind of excitement that makes you shout, but the kind that means you drop to your knees and can barely speak.
It really energized the passage, as well as improving the dictions
(Save the Liturgy, Save the World)
Incidentally, I can’t remember if I have posted here how blessed I feel that you have resumed blogging, Aristotle.
Pax et bonum,
Geri
