My current advice on the upcoming USCCB document on church music

Its pronouncements will be valid only inasmuch as it adheres to official Vatican pronouncements on church music. Inasmuch as it ignores or rejects Rome, it is to be rejected. Period.

For those who have not been exposed to Rome’s statements on music, here is a comprehensive (but not complete) list.

Good to see you back… I read through some archived postings of yours from years back, and was disappointed when I found that you had closed down operations. Its easy to be cynical, but these are exciting times to be in. This advice about the USCCB document is the best advice I’ve read, although it is so obvious that we shouldn’t need to be reminded. At the time of this reply, the document has apparently been passed. I read through the draft earlier today and was horrified. It was worse than I could have imagined. Later, I heard from a usually reliable source that the “final version” after the ammendments was “pretty good”. I can’t imagine how that is possible given the weaknesses that I was able to spot in a 25 minute reading of the draft.

BTW… I noted that of the four newly added blogs on your blog roll, two of them (Chironomo’s Podium and The Authentic Update) are mine! Thanks for the plug… I try hard but still have a total of about 5 readers… I hope you will take time to comment when you visit.
