Revisiting the Propers project

The online propers project will be revised anew. Here’s what people can expect.

  • FM-quality MP3s of all chants hosted on this site, eventually including BitTorrents for shared distribution
  • English translations from the New American and Douay-Rheims bibles.
  • Indexes: sorting by multiple criteria, some yet to be determined at the time of this writing
  • Attention to both the 1962 and 1970 Missals (emphasis will be given to the 1970 at the outset, however)

Why additional recordings? First, the website that hosts the MP3s of the Brazilian Benedictine monks is slowing noticeably (presumably or hopefully due to the interest in the chant). Second, to expose the public ear to a more rapid (yet hopefully still prayerful) interpretation of the chant, while still using the basic Solesmes method found in the 1962 Liber Usualis.

The project already has begun with recordings of the Communion Antiphons. It promises to be a costly project (both in terms of time and bandwidth). If bandwidth starts exceeding my monthly allowance, I will ask for donations to help keep the site online.

I hope and pray that the results are worthy.
