“Yurodivi” begins his observations on the current state of Catholic church music correctly:

One really easy way to stick your hand into the hornet’s nest is to say something like,”We need to get back to real music in the Church and get rid of this folk stuff.”

His story of how a Buddhist student grasped more easily the defining characteristics of chant not only confirms for me the evangelistic aspects of the chant to non-Christians (in that many non-Christian faiths also possess a chant tradition), but also reconfirms what another Buddhist has encouraged the Christian churches to do. They perceive something in our tradition that we largely neglect.
