I have a question regarding the Passion readings. Do you or your readers know of any downloadable source for chant settings of the Passions? In Rome, we had old books (certainly in the public domain by now) with chant for each of the three parts for all four of the Passion narratives (Old Rite). Or, can the chant versions (either the originals or vernacular adaptations) be purchased somewhere?

Related question: The closing burial account is, in the Old Rite, sung in the normal Gospel tone. There is, though, as I recall, a more elaborate tone ad libitum that we used for this closing. Any ideas on how to find it?

GIA publishes the Passion Gospels as ” The Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ” (G-4988).

Here’s the description: 1998 RNAB translation of gospels for Passion Sunday and Good Friday, based on Vatican edition of the Passion. Modern chant notation on 5-line staff. Rubrics and performance notes included. For 3 chanters (low, medium, high). Cloth bound, large print, 10 x 14-inch format for sanctuary use. 118 pages. 45.00 each; 3 copies for 120.00

I believe at a lecture by their director I heard that the Schola at Gonzaga University (somewhere in Washington state?) has produced and will sell their own edition.
If its on a par with thier singing of chant, I recommend it highly.

There’s also versions of all 4 passions in Theodore Marier’s hymnal “Hymns. Psalms, and Spiritual Canticles” (organ and choir edition), though it has the 1970 NAB, not the 1998.
