"Ten Steps Toward Reforming the Western Rite"

Suggestions by “Fr. Pontificator”, an Episcopal priest. Briefly, they are:

  1. Restore the versus apsidem. Celebrant and congregation should together “face the Lord” in prayer.
  2. Get rid of the guitars and the sentimental, trite praise songs.
  3. Rediscover the sublimity and grace of Gregorian and Anglican chant.
  4. Fire the solo song leader.
  5. The celebrant should restrict himself to the words of the liturgy.
  6. Restore a sense of ritual formality.
  7. Stop worshipping on the cheap.
  8. Bring back the alb and amice.
  9. Start building more beautiful churches.
  10. Improve the quality of liturgical texts.
