More By Inertia Than Intention
St. Cecilia Schola Cantorum both asks and answers the vital question: Why is a chant workshop needed? It’s likely because small and medium-sized parishes lack the practical means to make sacred music come to life. If you wonder what the…
Well, I can truthfully say, this is the first time in my life I have ever wished I lived in Alabama….
I had hoped to go to the Sacred Music Conference at Ancilla College last year that was canceled.
Ah, well, I’ll get to a workshop or practicum on chant yet (and meanwhile, there is the Marier Masterclass CD.)
And also meanwhile, our second and third graders have selected Tone 5 as their favorite, and we will be learning to chant some new psalms next week.
Will you please help? About 5-6 years ago I heard a choir in New Orleans which was outstanding in talent and direction. They were from Ala., I believe Mobile. They were known as the Musica Sacra Choir or something similar. I lost their web site address and the name and e-mail address (and name) of their ddirector even though I had corresponded with him a couple of times and traveled to hear the choir in Mobile. Do you know the group I am speaking of and the name of the talented director? If so, can you tell me if they are still in existence and if so how I can learn more about any of their appearances? It would be muchly appreciated. I’m also fascinated with your site and love the Latin chant, which I have often heard at the Benedictine Abby in Covington, LA. Thank you.

It is indeed Musica Sacra, and their director is Christopher Uhl. They did lessons and carols at Holy Name church on the Loyola campus, perhaps other appearances in New Orleans. I myself am traveling to see them tomorrow night.
