Solemnity of the Assumption

Music for 9:00 AM Mass, St. Ignatius Loyola Church, Hicksville, N.Y.

Alleluia: Chant (Tone VI)
Closing: Hail, Holy Queen Enthroned Above, verse 1 (SALVE REGINA COELITUM)

Due to the blackout, Mass was unamplified, stress-free, and very prayerful. Although we were situated about halfway down the nave, my family and I had no problem understanding either the voice of the celebrant or that of the lector. Homilies and readings do sound quite different when preachers and lectors truly have to be proclaimed. (The church has a modified ceiling similar to the one described in this post.) The closing hymn was initiated by the congregation at the petition of the celebrant, done a cappella and rather well.
