New site features!

I’ve added some extra functionality to this blog. Hope it all proves useful.

Thanks to the MT Plugin Directory, this site now features previews of the most recent comments on the home page. The purpose of adding this feature is threefold.

  • I’ve included the feature as a gesture of goodwill to people who comment on any post on this site. Someone may comment on my July 19, 2002 post, and while I certainly will read it (all comments are e-mailed to me), others may not. This is an attempt to help others view more activity on this blog more easily.
  • Second, since the feature links comments to their relevant posts, it may reignite discussion of that post.
  • Third, I’m a wannabe tech geek and I love tinkering. :-)

I have also, as a gesture of goodwill, modified the code to not display e-mail addresses. Even though Movable Type has an anti-spam feature and it was active before, it’s relatively easy to break anti-spam measures. Commenters, I hope that you use your true e-mail addresses in the future, because I would like to communicate personally with some of you from time to time, and have so in the past. I do not sell e-mail addresses, I can’t use them for marketing in this job or my next, and my database is secure to the best of my knowledge. If however, you insist on using an anonymous e-mail address, I cannot stop you but won’t ban your comments.

Lastly, I have added permalinks to comments, so if a commenter would like to link to a comment on this site, they can now do so.

Thank you all for the charitable discussions we’ve had here. I’ve learned plenty. Even when they have been borderline uncharitable, I’ve learned a lot.

To keep discussion on the issues and not the site features, I’m disallowing comments on this post. However, if you would like to suggest future improvements to the site (navigational, subject matter, etc.) please feel free to e-mail me directly at aae1 at cornell dot edu.
