Need help with the 1962 liturgical calendar
I’ve been asked very recently to lead a choir at a missa cantata this Saturday according to the 1962 rubrics, which means we’ll be following the 1962 liturgical calendar. Hopefully someone can answer a question I have regarding the calendar.
On page 1453 of the 1962 Liber Usualis is May 3, the Finding of the Holy Cross—a double feast of the second class—with Mass propers. On page LXVII, under “Changes in the Calendar”, item 7b states that the Finding of the Holy Cross becomes a liturgical day of the II class. However, on page XC under “Feasts of May” is listed “Mass of feria (of SS. Alexander, Eventius and Theodulus, MM. and St. Juvenalis, Bp. Conf. : Sancti tui, p. 1149)”, which is also confirmed on page XLIV, where it is called a commemoration.
My instinct tells me to prepare the Finding of the Holy Cross. Is this the correct route to take, given the information above? Also, would we sing the Credo at such a Mass?

At a high mass, the credo is sung by the chior, with some parts sung by the cantor, and others by the full chior, at a low mass, the credo is said only by the priest.
When in doubt, ask the celebrant which mass he plans on using. ![]()
Thanks all for the help. The resolution to the question of propers is here.
For the Traditional Latin Mass, it is customary to use the Votive Mass of the Sacred Heart of Jesus on First Fridays and the Votive Mass of the Immaculate Heart of Mary on First Saturdays (at least in the US). However, I think there are certain occasions when another Mass Proper is obligatory, so you should always be sure to get “on the same page” as the celebrant.
